Get to know a
little bit more about me

Hi 👋! I’m Laura (31), I live just a stone's throw away from the nicest city of NL (Rotterdam), and recently took the jump from project management to UX design.

Education 🎓

In 2015 I graduated as a Visual Art and Design Manager at the HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht).

During my studies, I had two main focuses: musea and sustainable 🌱 fashion & design. One of the most important things I have learned while working in this last field is how to make consumers aware of sustainability (without finger-pointing).

I was always interested in how consumers think and move. That’s one of the core learnings of my study: what happens in the ‘field’ and with that in mind, how do you reach your right audience?

Work Experience 🗄️

From jobs in event management, account management, and project management, I can say I have managed a lot. I have worked for several agencies and therefore I have seen a lot of different clients and cases. The industries I have worked in:

  • Branding & Communication for Sustainable fashion & Lifestyle brands

  • Digital design for Cultural and Social companies

  • Communication and design for Cultural and Social companies

Because I always tried to trigger my right brain hemisphere (creativity) during my work, I also did a lot of marketing, branding, and content tasks during these jobs.

The Jump 🚀

So why the transition from project management to UX Design? Well, the switch feels quite natural to me. Although I liked the fuss that project management brings, I couldn’t get enough satisfaction out of it.

I like to crack my brain over a strategic puzzle now and then. As an emphatic person, I am always curious about how people think. I like to dig deep to get to know what a consumer wants, with keeping the client’s wishes in mind. With a design-focused study and my work experience at several creative (digital) agencies, the switch to UX felt like the right next step.

With a lot of self-study 🤓, talking with UX designers and the UX ICT Architect course at the UX Academy, I can’t wait to apply my learnings in a UX role 🏁!

Profile

I have a positive attitude, am an emphatic colleague, and love to solve problems! Colleagues would describe me as social, pragmatic, and hardworking.

I am a team player who can take ownership of projects and tasks. I work structured and organized but I am also flexible and responsive.

Because of my background in project management, I can bring a set of skills to the UX profession, like stakeholder management, self-evaluation, planning, and knowledge of (digital) design processes and so on.

The things I 💜

Random conversations I pick up in public that make me smile, a bike ride through the city, a museum visit, a good movie, sometimes also a bad movie, the beach, a cozy bookshop, playing tennis, my cat Yous, colorful illustrators, and good conversations.

Recently, I learned (with a bit of self-instructing and YouTube) the art of tufting 🔫 – a nice escape from the computer screen, diving headfirst into a world of colorful, fluffy creations. 🌈💫
